A Collection of Poetry, Spring 2023
Here is a few of the poems I have made this spring. Enjoy reading through!
REST
They say mother nature rests in the winter,
That’s if you believe nature is a woman,
Or that nature is one single person that is all living.
Why are we expected to push through?
Depression caves in during the darkness,
Because all the other creatures are hibernating,
Resting for the spring ahead.
We’re supposed to be ‘productive’,
When the whole nature of productivity is construed by capitalism.
All we need to do is sleep,
Sleep through the cold winter,
And wake up when the buds are sprouting,
And the cycle begins again.
ANEW
We return to the house,
That was once filled with children,
Opening gifts and eating chocolate,
Laughing and playing with their toys,
Surrounded by their family,
And by my Nana.
Our school photos crowding the shelves,
The mantlepiece filled with gifts and cards,
An evergrowing stack of magazines,
The letters piled at the door,
The clock ticking in the silence.
She’s still here, just not with us,
Perhaps she will be able to return,
But I think it’s coming close,
To when we won’t see her again,
And her loss will be immeasurable.
The house where we once played,
Will become anew.
OTHER
I am curious,
Questioning,
Is there something else that walks among us?
I try to rationalise,
But not everything can be explained.
